Our sustainability strategy: Innovation is also environmental protection.
Innovation means more than developing unprecedented electronic applications. Innovation also means handling natural resources responsibly, as well as protecting the climate and the environment. That’s why we rely on a cross-site sustainability strategy.
Starting with a modern website featuring a preset night mode that already saves energy.
As one of the first companies in the industry, duotec has been operating climate-neutrally at its Halver site since 2021. We offset 292 tons of CO₂-equivalent pollutants annually, which precisely corresponds to our carbon footprint. For the period from 2021 to 2022, we offset greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing certificates from the "VCS + CCBS Forest Conservation Peru" and "GS Wind Power India" projects. In 2023 and 2024, we will offset the company's greenhouse gas emissions by acquiring a total of 584 certificates from the "VCS Forest Conservation China" and "UN CER Wind Energy Mexico" projects. We consider supporting sustainability initiatives in emerging and developing countries particularly meaningful. They improve the economic, social, and ecological situation in these countries while also helping to achieve the United Nations' sustainability goals.
In parallel, our development team is involved in various research projects that drive the energy transition. Fit4eChange is preparing energy distribution networks for the future, while RaQuEl is exploring a quantum-based sensor solution for efficient battery management in the booming e-mobility sector.
Our manufacturing company ml&s covers 40 percent of its total electricity needs at its site in Greifswald, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, with solar energy. The rest comes from green electricity — also 100 percent from renewable sources. Visitors to ml&s are greeted by several photovoltaic systems. Large, ground-mounted modules as well as additional systems on the roofs of the administration and production buildings. More cells are set to follow soon, bringing ml&s significantly closer to its goal of climate neutrality.
At its Swiss site in Delémont, Jura, duotec S.A. already generates 80 percent of the required electricity with rooftop photovoltaic systems. The remaining 20 percent comes exclusively from renewable energy sources such as hydropower.
On the other side of the globe, in the Mexican state of Coahuila, we also rely on solar panels. There's certainly plenty of sunshine. As a result, duotec de Norteamérica S de RI de CV in Arteaga sources a large part of its energy needs not from the grid, but from solar modules.
ml&s not only consistently pursues its sustainability strategy but also manufactures a range of environmentally friendly products and devices. This includes the GLT Tube—a durable LED light tube with minimal energy consumption. In the spirit of sustainability, it makes perfect sense to use the tubes produced in Greifswald in their own manufacturing processes.
The effect speaks for itself: The 6,000 energy-efficient tubes save an impressive 50% of electricity.
Wherever possible, ml&s improves its energy efficiency in manufacturing.
For example, a digital Manufacturing Execution System optimizes production processes, enabling an additional 20% energy savings.
A positive side effect: setup and cycle times are also reduced. ml&s also actively supports e-mobility: a total of 14 charging stations for electric vehicles are available. The same applies to their two-wheeled counterparts: ml&s has built a parking area with charging infrastructure for e-bikes.
